Background
I left my home town...
I left my hometown, Tokamachi in Niigata prefecture to go to high school when I was 15 years old.
Since then I have lived in several different areas and countries for higher education and work.
During this time, in 2005 and 2006, large-scale natural disasters such as earthquakes and heavy snow hit Tokamachi area,
and it has been difficult for my hometown to regain the economic position it held before these disasters struck.
Things I realise about my hometown:
We:
- produce the tastiest rice which is also the best for making Sushi
- have maintained production of traditional silk kimonos for over 100 years
- have had some of the heaviest snowfall since records began in 1926 - in the winter of 2006, 14m of snow fell in just one season
After living out side of Japan for over six years, I now realise that my hometown is special
in the way it maintains Japanese traditions and in its calm people.
In Petit Japon Ltd I would like to engage all the elements that are an essential part of life
in my hometown so that I can create something new for our customers around the world.
